We are a media driven society, always looking to find out what is new and interesting. Make sure you keep your existing and prospective patients up to date with what is fresh in your practice as well as in the world of vision care. Use the News and Events section on your site to let your patients know that you are up to date with new technology, medical research, developing product lines and events in your community. This is your electronic bulletin board, your opportunity to keep your clientele 'in the know'. It's an easy section to use, and can have tremendous effect on your web site.
Visitors can see your newsworthy items in your News and Events page. But, if you check off the 'Show on homepage' on page, your visitors can see your news right on your home page. Remember, 92% of all visitors look at your home page, so make sure your top news stories always show on the home page. The home page looks best when only 2 or 3 news items are showing, not more.
Make sure to change the date regularly to ensure that information that is retained as default, such as 'Eyeglasses Are Back' will look current. The calendar can be you guide to assist you in placing appropriate news items on the home page. For example:
- August is an ideal time to advertise Vision Screening for pre-school children. Insert a short write-up and then create a link to related information on the AOA site at http://www.aoa.org/x5068.xml to reinforce your information.
- Let patients know that the first World Glaucoma Day was on March 06/08 at http://www.wgday.net/inner.php?pageid=6.
- You may want to entice cruise bound seniors to your Fendi trunk sale and insert a link to the Marchon site to peak their interest at http://www.marchon.com/content.html.
- If you're attending Vision Expo East, let patients know that you're doing so.
The ideas are limitless, and the benefits enormous. An up-to-date site tells patients that you are detail-oriented, on top of news and trends and care enough to share important information. Updating the news and events on your web site is a good way to keep those visitors on your site just a little bit longer and perhaps just might tip the scales causing that potential patient to book an appointment with you.
